Electrosurgery – Diathermy
Electrosurgery uses radiofrequency medical devices to generate electrical energy to remove skin tags or moles. Any small skin lesion that is increasing in size, causing pain, or is unsightly can be removed with electrosurgery, typically without leaving any significant scarring.
A topical numbing cream is applied to the targeted area before treatment to numb the lesion. In some cases, a local anaesthetic injection may be used. Once the area is sufficiently anaesthetised, the procedure begins and it is typically very quick. Many patients are surprised by how swiftly the process is completed. No sutures are required. We may arrange a follow-up visit to review if necessary.

While working for others, Dr Jeanel felt there should be a stronger emphasis on bespoke aesthetic solutions, which motivated her to bridge the gap by starting her own aesthetic clinic in Singapore. Mole removal is a routine procedure performed regularly at our clinic and Dr Jeanel will take every care to ensure that the risk of scarring is kept to a minimum. The final result will depend on the type of procedure, your skin type, how well your skin heals, and the size and location of the mole. The vast majority of our patients are very satisfied with the outcome of their treatment.
Most moles do not require treatment. Typically, moles can be cosmetically unpleasant and removing it can result in a better aesthetic outcome. In some instances, there may be features of the mole that lead us to suspect malignant features that may warrant further investigation.
It is important to follow the post-care instructions provided by Dr Jeanel to reduce the risk of infection. Topical antibiotics may be prescribed to aid in the healing process.
DIY skincare solutions are often appealing due to their convenience and cost. However, home remedies for removing skin tags may lead to skin irritation, causing burning sensations, redness, and even ulcers. There are also other risks involved with DIY treatments, including:
Risk of Bleeding: Home removal methods can cause bleeding, particularly if the skin tag is large or located in a sensitive area.
Risk of Infection: Any break in the skin can lead to infection. This risk is significantly reduced when skin tags are removed in a sterile environment by a healthcare professional.
Risk of Irritation: Removing a skin tag may cause irritation or allergic reactions, especially if the tag is in a sensitive area.
Risk of Damage to Surrounding Skin: Attempting to remove a skin tag at home can result in damage to the surrounding healthy skin.
Incomplete Removal: DIY methods may not fully remove the skin tag, leading to regrowth.
In most cases, skin tags do not grow back after removal. However, there may be a chance of recurrence. Dr Jeanel may prescribe a topical cream to reduce the risk of scarring and hyperpigmentation, particularly on the face.
The number of sessions required for skin tag removal depends on factors such as the size, type, and number of skin tags being treated. In most instances, skin tag removal can be completed in just one session. It is best to consult the doctor so she can assess your condition and counsel accordingly.
